Grade V - Young scientist- Human Respiratory system-Model making The respiratory system is a biological system consisting of specific organs and structures used for gas exchange in animals and plants. The anatomy and physiology that make this happen vary greatly depending on the size of the organism, the environment in which it lives and its evolutionary history. Students used cardboard, straw, balloons, chart paper and labels to make a model of the human respiratory system. It is an excellent way to learn about the respiratory system and how the lungs function. Balloons represent the lungs; straw represents the trachea and cutout of chart paper is used to show other parts of the respiratory system which helped students to understand this vital breathing process to acquire life-giving oxygen. Working with models helped students to enhance their system thinking abilities. Models and model development are useful for helping students learn quantitative skills such as graphing, graphical analysis and visualization, statistics, computational skills and mathematics. ""
