Grade IV - Creating a Lung Model to Understand the Diaphragm's Role in Breathing "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." This quote highlights that students gain deeper understanding and retain knowledge better when they engage in hands-on, practical experiences. Recently, Grade IV students participated in an activity to understand the role of the diaphragm in breathing. The session began with a brief discussion on the importance of the lungs in the respiratory system. Students were asked to take deep breaths and observe the movement in their chests. Each student or group then created a simple model of the lungs to explore the human respiratory system. Using a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off, they inserted a balloon through the top and secured it with the lid. Another balloon was placed at the bottom of the bottle and tied off. By stretching the bottom balloon, students could see how the diaphragm expands and contracts, causing air to flow into the top balloon, simulating how air fills the lungs. This engaging activity helped students visualize and better understand the mechanics of breathing and the crucial role of the diaphragm. ""
