Grades- III - Science Yardstick-The Living Train In Grade III, students participated in an engaging hands-on activity where they learned to distinguish between living and non-living things. They used a yardstick as a practical tool to measure and compare various objects, further enhancing their understanding of the physical characteristics that differentiate the two categories. During the activity, students sorted objects and pictures into two groups. Living things, such as plants and animals, require food, water, and air, and have the ability to grow and change. On the other hand, non-living things, like books and rocks, do not require these necessities and do not grow or change independently. By incorporating the yardstick into their learning, students were able to make more concrete observations and gain a deeper comprehension of how to identify the distinct characteristics of living and non-living things in our world.
